Count Your Fears is a captivating Session Black IPA that strikes a surreal balance between its obsidian hue and a vibrant, sun-drenched hop profile. Despite its pitch-black appearance, the palate is enlightened by high-intensity juicy and tropical fruit notes, reminiscent of mango and passionfruit. The use of debittered roast malts provides a structural backdrop of light chocolate and toasted bread without the harshness of char or ash. This creates a remarkably drinkable experience where the dark malt aesthetics meet the refreshing, dry, and hop-forward character of a modern Specialty IPA, perfectly capturing a vivid, hallucinatory sensory mindscape.
Appearance. Opaque, pitch black color (38 SRM) with a persistent, creamy light tan head that leaves moderate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent tropical fruit, pineapple, and citrus. Beneath the fruit lies a subtle, clean malt presence of light cocoa and toasted grain, with a neutral fermentation profile and very low esters.
Taste. Assertive tropical hop flavors of mango and melon lead into a firm but smooth bitterness. The malt provides a gentle, supportive layer of cold-brew coffee and dark bread crust, avoiding any burnt or ashy astringency. It finishes dry and clean with lingering resinous hops and a light roast touch.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate, and there is no significant alcohol warmth, providing high drinkability.
