La Quince Original Gravity
Original Gravity is an assertive Double IPA that showcases a bold hop profile driven by heavy doses of Warrior and Simcoe. The aroma leads with intense notes of pine resin and earthy spice from the Warrior hops, supported by the punchy citrus and stone fruit character of Simcoe. On the palate, a clean, neutral malt base provides just enough structure to balance the high bitterness without adding heavy sweetness. The double dry-hopping process emphasizes the fresh, forest-like qualities of the hops, resulting in a crisp, dry finish. At 8% ABV, a smooth alcohol warmth is present, enhancing the beer's substantial yet drinkable character.
Appearance. Gold to light orange-copper. Moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with good lacing. Generally clear, though double dry-hopping may impart a slight, acceptable haze.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent resinous pine, grapefruit, and subtle passionfruit from Simcoe. Supportive, clean, neutral grainy malt in the background. Low fermentation esters and a soft, clean alcohol note.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors of pine, citrus zest, and herbal earthiness. High bitterness that remains firm but smooth. Low, clean, crackery malt character provides balance. Finishes dry to medium-dry with a long, lingering resinous and bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture. Carbonation is medium-high. Contains a restrained, smooth alcohol warmth without any harsh hop-derived astringency.
