La Quince Double Baden IPA
This vibrant Double IPA bridges German and American traditions to deliver a bold sensory experience. It presents a brilliant golden-orange hue with a creamy, persistent white head. The aroma is dominated by intense citrus and resinous notes, featuring the mandarin-forward character of Mandarina Bavaria alongside the classic pine and grapefruit of Simcoe, Chinook, and Cascade. On the palate, a clean cereal foundation from German Pils and Munich malts provides a lean structure, subtly accented by Carahell caramel. A firm, lingering bitterness from Magnum defines the finish. Despite its strength, the body remains light and crisp, showcasing a masterful balance of hop saturation and drinkability.
Appearance. Golden-orange color (approximately 8-10 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a moderate, white, creamy, and highly persistent head that leaves consistent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent citrus (tangerine, orange peel), resinous pine, and a light herbal undertone. The malt profile is supportive and clean, showing grainy-sweet and light toasty notes from the Munich malt. Fermentation is very clean with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial hop-forward impression of orange and mandarin fruitiness. High hop bitterness that is assertive but smooth, never harsh. A low to medium malt presence provides a cereal-like sweetness with a faint caramel background from the Carahell. The finish is dry and crisp with a long, lingering hoppy and bitter aftertaste. Complex hop layering is evident throughout.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, lean texture. Carbonation is moderate. Contains a noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth that enhances the experience without being hot or solventy. Extremely low astringency.
