American IPA 6.3 º
La Pirata Round 4 is a quintessential West Coast IPA crafted to celebrate the brewery's anniversary. This celebratory ale leads with an assertive and pungent hop profile, showcasing vibrant notes of resinous pine, grapefruit zest, and a touch of tropical fruit. At 6.3% ABV, it strikes a professional balance between a lean, cracker-like malt backbone and a firm, clean bitterness that lingers pleasantly on the palate. The fermentation is exceptionally clean, allowing the hop complexity to take center stage. It concludes with a crisp, bone-dry finish that invites another sip, perfectly embodying the refreshing yet bold character of the American IPA style.
Appearance. Pours a brilliant, clear deep gold (approximately 8 SRM) with a thick, frothy white head that exhibits excellent persistence and leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of pine resin, citrus peel, and a hint of dank herbal character. Low, clean grainy maltiness provides a subtle background of cracker and light toasted bread. Clean fermentation profile with no significant esters.
Taste. The initial impression is hop-forward with flavors of grapefruit, pine sap, and light floral notes. Malt flavor is low, presenting as clean pale grain. Bitterness is high and assertive but not harsh, supporting a very dry finish. The aftertaste is hoppy and crisp with a lingering resinous quality.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, non-astringent texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively mouthfeel. A very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present but subtle.
