This American Stout presents a decadent interpretation of the style, balancing classic roasted character with indulgent pastry elements. The profile is defined by rich cacao and the sugary, vanillic softness of marshmallows, overlaying a foundation of dark chocolate and espresso-like roasted malts. Despite the robust alcohol content, it maintains a surprisingly approachable and smooth character. On the palate, the sweetness of the marshmallows rounds out the assertive bitterness typical of the style, leading to a warming, dessert-forward finish. It represents a modern evolution of the American Stout where charred grain meets confectionery sweetness in a harmonious, medium-bodied pour.
Appearance. Jet black (SRM 40) and opaque. Features a persistent, light tan head with fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity roast aroma of dark chocolate and espresso, heavily layered with sweet vanilla-like marshmallow and rich cacao. Low resinous hop notes and a subtle, clean alcohol presence are detectable beneath the adjunct layers.
Taste. Initial sweetness from marshmallows followed by moderate to high roasted flavors of bittersweet chocolate and coffee beans. Medium-high bitterness is balanced by the cacao and marshmallow additions. The finish is smooth and lingering with a pleasant warmth and a light toasted quality.
