La Pirata Hostal Caribe
Hostal Caribe is a vacation-inspired Double India Pale Ale that transports the palate to a tropical retreat. A lush base of Golden Promise malt, Oats, Dextrin Malt, and Flaked Wheat creates a velvety, opaque foundation for intense additions of coconut and pineapple. The aroma is dominated by freshly cut pineapple and creamy coconut, backed by the resinous depth of New World hops. On the tongue, the fruit takes center stage, offering a piña colada-like richness balanced by the firm, clean bitterness characteristic of a strong ale. The 8.5% alcohol is expertly integrated, providing a gentle warmth that complements the breezy, Caribbean-inspired sensory experience.
Appearance. Opaque, pale gold to light orange (6-7 SRM). Features a thick, persistent, creamy white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Punchy aromas of sun-ripened pineapple and sweet shredded coconut lead the profile. Subtle notes of citrus and tropical stone fruit from the hops follow, supported by a clean, grainy malt backbone and a hint of bready yeast.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical fruit juice. Strong flavors of pineapple and creamy coconut meld with resinous hop notes. A moderately high bitterness provides a necessary counterpoint to the fruit. The malt character is soft and bready. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering tropical and bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, pillowy texture from the oats and wheat. Carbonation is moderate. A smooth, restrained alcohol warmth is present, enhancing the drinkability despite the high ABV.
