La Petra IPA is a vibrant American IPA that showcases the classic interplay of Citra and Centennial hops. It presents a clean, hop-forward profile where Citra provides dominant notes of tropical lime and grapefruit, while Centennial adds a structured layer of floral resin and pine. The sensory experience is defined by a bright, gold-colored liquid and an assertive bitterness that remains crisp and refreshing. A restrained, grainy malt backbone allows the citrus-heavy hop character to remain the focus through a dry, lingering finish. This medium-bodied ale exemplifies the style's balance between high drinkability and bold, punchy aromatic intensity.
Appearance. Medium gold (7 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Features a persistent, frothy white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring grapefruit, lime, and tropical fruit from Citra, supported by floral and piney notes from Centennial. Malt is low and clean-grainy. Fermentation is neutral with no significant esters.
Taste. Leading with a medium-high hop flavor of citrus peel and resin. Low bready malt flavor provides minimal sweetness. Bitterness is firm and assertive but clean. The finish is dry and crisp with a lingering hop-derived bitterness and citrus aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, non-astringent texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively mouthfeel. A very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present.
