LA Brewery Kumpel presents as a quintessential Rauchbier, blending the toasty-rich foundations of a Märzen with the evocative character of beechwood smoke. The sensory experience is defined by an alluring aroma of savory bacon and campfire, balanced against a backdrop of malty sweetness. On the palate, the smokiness is integrated and clean, avoiding any acrid or harsh notes, while delivering a gentle, spicy hop touch in the finish. At 5.2% ABV, it offers a medium body and a smooth lager profile that concludes with a satisfyingly dry, lingering smokiness that invites another sip.
Appearance. Deep copper to mahogany brown (approximately 18 SRM) with excellent clarity. It is topped by a large, dense, persistent, cream-colored head that leaves fine lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity; dominant notes of clean beechwood smoke and savory, bacon-like phenols. Beneath the smoke lies a moderate toasty malt richness with hints of bread crust. Hop aroma is very low, offering a faint floral spice, backed by a clean lager fermentation profile.
Taste. A harmonious blend of smoky and malty flavors. Initial flavors of toasted bread and rich malt sweetness are quickly met by a moderate level of savory smoke. Bitterness is moderate and well-balanced, preventing the malt from becoming cloying. The finish is medium-dry, with a lingering aftertaste of smooth smoke and a touch of herbal hop character.
Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied with a smooth, well-conditioned lager texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crispness that cuts through the malt richness. There is no perceived alcohol warmth or astringency.
