This Double IPA delivers an intense sensory experience driven by a potent hop profile of Moutere, Nelson, and Citra. The aroma is dominated by crushed gooseberry, passion fruit, and tropical grapefruit, while Citra adds bright layers of lime zest. A neutral, grainy malt base provides just enough structure to support the aggressive bitterness without adding heaviness. Despite its 8% strength, the beer remains remarkably crisp and dry, showcasing a clean fermentation profile that allows the complex hop oils to linger on the palate. The result is a bold, hop-forward powerhouse that balances high-intensity fruitiness with a firm, drying finish typical of the style.
Appearance. Deep gold to light copper (approx. 8-10 SRM) with high clarity. It supports a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of white wine grapes, passion fruit, and grapefruit from Moutere and Nelson. Citra provides a distinct citrus zest and melon character. Malt is neutral and grainy in the background, with a very clean fermentation profile and a hint of smooth alcohol.
Taste. Strong, complex hop flavors reflecting the tropical and citrus aroma. High bitterness that is firm but clean and lacking harshness. The malt character is low and unobtrusive, reminiscent of soft crackers. Finishes very dry and crisp with a long, lingering bitterness and resinous hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, creamy texture. Carbonation is medium-high, enhancing the dry finish. A restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no hop-derived astringency.
