Kinnegar Brewing

Kinnegar’s Merrytiller is a vibrant, modern interpretation of a classic Saison. This sessionable farmhouse ale bridges the gap between traditional Belgian heritage and contemporary hop profiles. A lively interplay of spicy black pepper phenols and citrusy esters from the fermentation is amplified by a New World dry-hopping regimen, introducing refreshing layers of tropical fruit and zesty grapefruit. The base reveals a rustic, grainy malt presence, while the finish is exceptionally dry and crisp. Effervescent and bright, it delivers a firm bitterness that lingers alongside notes of sun-ripened stone fruit and earthy botanicals, providing a highly refreshing and complex experience.

Appearance. Pale gold to light orange (approx. 6 SRM) with a slight, rustic haze. It supports a dense, long-lasting, rocky white head that leaves significant Belgian lace on the glass.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity featuring a complex blend of spicy black pepper and fruity esters like lemon zest and pear. The New World dry-hopping adds distinct notes of grapefruit and mango. A low, grainy, cracker-like malt aroma provides a delicate backbone.

Taste. The initial impression is crisp and refreshing, dominated by fruity yeast esters and citrusy hop flavors. A moderate hop bitterness is present, accentuated by the very high attenuation and bone-dry finish. Grainy malt flavors are low but provide a soft texture. The aftertaste is clean, featuring lingering notes of spicy yeast and tropical fruit.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with very high, effervescent carbonation. There is no significant alcohol warmth, consistent with its 5% ABV. The mouthfeel is crisp and prickly without any astringency.
