This Hazy IPA is an intensive study of the Riwaka hop, utilizing premium Eggers Riwaka and the concentrated Eggers Special lots to deliver a punchy, tropical experience. The sensory profile is dominated by a vibrant bouquet of passionfruit, zesty grapefruit, and a signature hint of diesel-like complexity unique to this New Zealand variety. Set against a soft, grainy malt backdrop, the beer pours a luminous, opaque straw color with a dense, meringue-like head. Each sip reveals a lush, velvety texture and a restrained bitterness that allows the saturated citrus and stone fruit notes to shine, finishing with a clean, fruity linger characteristic of the style.
Appearance. Straw to light orange in color (approx. 4 SRM). Opaque with a characteristic hazy shine, though free of visible hop particulates or yeast clumps. Supports a medium, rocky, white meringue-like head with very high retention.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring potent tropical and citrus qualities, specifically passionfruit and grapefruit. A clean, lightly bready and grainy malt character provides a background foundation. Neutral fermentation esters with no inappropriate buttery or acidic notes.
Taste. High to very high fruity hop flavors echoing the tropical and citrus aroma. Malt flavor is low and supportive, presenting as fresh bread or light grain. Perceived bitterness is moderate but masked by the soft, full body, leading to an off-dry, juicy finish. No harshness or sharpness in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, soft texture. Carbonation is moderate. The beer lacks any acidic twang or raw starchiness, exhibiting a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth without being hot.
