Kicks Brewing Against the Grain
Against the Grain is a vibrant American Pale Ale that leans into the modern, expressive character of New Zealand hops. This double dry-hopped hazy pale pours with a soft, inviting glow, releasing a punchy aromatic profile of passionfruit, lime, and ripe stone fruit. The sensory experience is defined by the unique terroir of Southern Hemisphere hops, which provide a lush, tropical fruit intensity without overwhelming bitterness. A clean, neutral malt backbone supports the hop-forward balance, while the hazy presentation adds a smooth, creamy dimension to the palate, finishing with a crisp, refreshing snap that maintains high drinkability.
Appearance. Pale gold to light amber (6–8 SRM). Features a thick, creamy white head with excellent retention and lacing. Displays a significant, uniform haze consistent with its double dry-hopped nature, departing from traditional clarity for the style.
Aroma. High intensity aromatics of tropical fruit, specifically passionfruit and gooseberry, alongside zesty lime and peach from New Zealand hops. Low neutral grain and light bready malt character support the hop profile. Clean fermentation with moderate fruity esters.
Taste. Leading with vibrant tropical hop flavors and a hint of citrus pith. Moderate bitterness provides structure but remains smooth and integrated. Subtle bready malt sweetness balances the New World hop profile. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering, clean hop aftertaste of melon and citrus peel.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a soft, slightly creamy texture from the hop-derived haze. Moderate carbonation. Very low alcohol warmth, well-integrated at 5.8% ABV. No harshness or hop astringency present.
