This collaborative Imperial Stout presents a decadent sensory profile, marrying the intense roast of dark chocolate and cocoa with the vibrant, zesty punch of orange. At 10% ABV, it carries a significant, well-integrated alcohol warmth that supports a complex backdrop of burnt grain and dark fruit esters, reminiscent of raisins and figs. The citrus oils provide a bright, aromatic contrast to the deep caramel and espresso-like maltiness. Appearance. Opaque, jet black (40 SRM). Thick, persistent dark brown head with excellent retention and significant lacing; high viscosity is visible as legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity; dominant notes of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and roasted coffee. Pronounced zesty orange peel and citrus oils are intertwined with background esters of dried plums and raisins. Very low earthy hop aroma and a smooth, vinous alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is rich and sweet; deep roasted flavors of bittersweet chocolate and espresso. Bright orange citrus notes provide a mid-palate lift that cuts through the heavy malt. Medium to aggressively high bitterness is present but balanced by residual sweetness. Finish is long, warming, and bittersweet with lingering cocoa and orange zest.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious, and creamy texture. Low to moderate carbonation. Significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present and noticeable as a background character without being sharp.
