Kees / La Pirata Hundred
This collaboration between Kees and La Pirata celebrates a landmark milestone with a powerful Russian Imperial Stout profile. At 12% ABV, it presents an immense sensory landscape dominated by deeply roasted malts evoking bittersweet chocolate and concentrated espresso. The malt complexity is bolstered by rich layers of molasses and dark, dried fruits like raisins and black currants. While intense, the character is harmonized by a firm bitterness that prevents the viscous, heavy body from becoming cloying. Expect a velvety, chewy texture that carries significant alcohol warmth through to a long, roasty finish. This non-barrel aged version highlights pure, unadulterated malt intensity.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. Features a dense, creamy, deep tan head with moderate retention. High viscosity is evident through thick legs appearing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of charred grain, roasted coffee, and bittersweet chocolate. Moderate esters contribute notes of dried plums and figs. A clean but prominent alcohol warmth is present, accompanied by a low earthy hop presence.
Taste. Intense and complex, leading with flavors of burnt malt, espresso, and dark cocoa. A supportive malt sweetness is balanced by an aggressively high bitterness. Mid-palate layers of raisins and black currants emerge before a long, bittersweet finish with lingering roast and smooth alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. Significant but smooth alcohol warmth is noticeable, contributing to a substantial and coating sensation.

"In December 2017, we brewed a collab with Spanish brewery La Pirata. This turned out to be a brilliant thick stout. When we asked our fans what beer we should release again for our 10th anniversary, the Hundred was mentioned very often. Fun detail, the origin of the name of this beer. When we sat down with La Pirata to come up with a name, this happened to be the 100th brew of 2017. Sometimes it can be that simple. This thick full-bodied stout is brewed with lots of dark malts, oats and muscovado sugar. At 12% alcohol, this is a real beer to enjoy quietly. This beer has dark notes of coffee, licorice, molasses and caramel on the palate and a lovely creamy finish. A worthy beer to celebrate our 10th anniversary with."
