Kaapse Brouwers Off the Map A.k.a. Kaapse Hedwig
This collaboration yields a vibrant American IPA defined by a lean grain bill of Golden Promise malts, corn, and rice flakes, resulting in a crisp, pale canvas. The aroma is high-intensity, showcasing a complex interplay of tropical fruit and resinous depths. Simcoe and Citra cryo hops drive bold notes of passion fruit and grapefruit, while Columbus provides a classic dank, herbal undertone. Palisade adds subtle floral and stone fruit nuances. Fermented with Nova Lager yeast, the profile is exceptionally clean, allowing the aggressive bitterness and bright hop oils to shine through to a bone-dry, refreshing, and highly aromatic finish.
Appearance. Medium gold (6-7 SRM) with a bright white, medium-sized head featuring excellent persistence and fine lacing. Clarity is clear to very slightly hazy.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent passion fruit, mango, and grapefruit citrus from the Simcoe and Citra. A secondary layer of resinous, herbal dankness from Columbus is present. The Golden Promise provides a low, clean, grainy-sweet malt background. Fermentation is extremely clean with no yeast-derived esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of citrus and tropical fruit, followed by resinous pine and an earthy dankness. Malt flavor is low and neutral, offering a light bready support. Bitterness is firm and medium-high, balancing the lean body. The finish is very dry and crisp with a lingering hoppy, resinous aftertaste and clean bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is medium-high. Provides a very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth without any harshness or astringency.
