Kaapse Lennie is a bold Double IPA that captures the direct, no-nonsense spirit of its Rotterdam namesake. Reaching a potent 10% ABV, it presents an intense sensory profile dominated by high-impact New World hops. The aroma is a vivid bouquet of resinous pine, zesty citrus, and tropical fruit, underpinned by a clean, neutral malt base that keeps the focus entirely on the hop saturation. On the palate, a firm, assertive bitterness cuts through a smooth, medium-bodied frame, leading to a bone-dry finish. Expect a warming, well-integrated alcohol presence and a lingering, resinous aftertaste that defines this powerhouse ale.
Appearance. Deep gold to light copper (8–12 SRM) with excellent clarity. It features a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head with good lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring notes of grapefruit zest, resinous pine, and crushed pineapple. Supportive, clean, neutral to grainy maltiness in the background. Fermentation is clean with very low esters and a subtle, smooth alcohol warmth.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors of citrus pith and resin. Malt flavor is low and unobtrusive, providing a soft toasted character without residual sweetness. Bitterness is high and firm but not harsh. The finish is medium-dry to dry with a long, lingering hoppy, bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture. Carbonation is moderate to medium-high. A clean, restrained alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated.
