Nuestra historia comienza en el siglo XIV cuando Haarlem crece tanto que se convierte en una de las ciudades cerveceras más importantes de los Países Bajos. Las fábricas de cerveza funcionan a toda velocidad y la cerveza se transporta por las aguas del río Spaarne en barriles llamados ‘Jopen’ (con un contenido de 112 litros). La cerveza tiene una calidad excelente e incluso se llega a consumir en el extranjero. Pero a este glorioso periodo le llega su fin cuando la última fábrica cervecera de Haarlem cierra sus puertas en 1916.
Retrocedemos en el tiempo hasta los años noventa del siglo pasado. Las preparaciones para la celebración del 750 aniversario de la ciudad de Haarlem están en pleno apogeo. La Fundación Sociedad Cervecera de Haarlem presenta un plan para recuperar la cerveza de Haarlem. En el archivo municipal se encuentran recetas con fecha de 1407 y 1501, según las cuales se vuelve a producir cerveza. Y…resulta que estos brebajes son una delicia. El 11 de noviembre de 1994 se anuncia el nuevo año con la cerveza más joven: la Hoppen. ¡Éste es el comienzo de Jopen!
Debido al éxito abrumador, la aventura sigue adelante. En noviembre de 2010 se le devuelve su dignidad a la tradición cervecera de Haarlem con la inauguración de la Jopenkerk. La iglesia de Santiago o Jacobskerk en el área del Raaksgebied se transforma como por arte de magia en una fábrica cervecera completamente operacional con un grand café y un restaurante anexo. Haarlem vuelve a colocarse en el mapa mundial como ciudad cervecera.
Hoy en día la tradición y la innovación van de la mano en Jopen. Con suprema atención y pasión producimos cervezas especiales de alta calidad haciendo uso de los desarrollos tecnológicos más punteros y los mejores ingredientes. El resultado: clásicos antiguos y modernos preparados según recetas milenarias. Cervezas distintivas, auténticas y llenas de sabor. Detrás de cada cerveza se esconde una historia particular y eso es algo que se debe saborear. La innumerable cantidad de galardones tanto a nivel nacional como internacional, constituyen la prueba final.
Jopen está preparada para el futuro. A través de los años la fábrica cervecera se ha expandido considerablemente. La marca de cerveza ya no sólo se puede conseguir en la ciudad de Haarlem, sino que también se bebe más allá de las fronteras de la ciudad y del país. Esta cerveza de alta calidad está conquistando el mundo.
