This bright Rye Pale Ale, a collaboration between Jopen and Stigbergets, presents a refreshing sensory profile defined by its unique grain bill and hop selection. The addition of Rye malt introduces a distinctive subtle spicy note and a smooth texture that anchors the beer. Cascade hops deliver classic grapefruit, floral, and pine aromas, while the New Zealand Wakatu hops elevate the profile with vibrant citrusy lime and tropical fruit notes. Despite its hop-forward nature, the beer maintains a soft bitterness and a clean, bright character, making it an approachable yet complex expression of a modern specialty ale.
Appearance. Golden to deep amber with a slight haze (SRM 6-9). Features a moderate, frothy white head with good persistence and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Bright citrus notes of grapefruit and lime zest from Cascade and Wakatu hops, complemented by tropical pineapple and a hint of floral pine. A subtle peppery, spicy rye malt character provides a firm aromatic base.
Taste. Initial impression is citrus-forward with lime and grapefruit zest. The mid-palate reveals tropical fruit flavors and a touch of resinous pine. Rye malt contributes a light grainy sweetness and a notable spicy, peppery flavor. Bitterness is soft and well-integrated, leading to a crisp, dry, and slightly spicy finish.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a slight rye-driven silkiness. Moderate carbonation provides a refreshing prickle. Very low alcohol warmth and no astringency.
