Jester King Wytchmaker is a complex Specialty IPA that integrates a 15% rye grist with a farmhouse-inspired profile. The sensory experience is defined by the interplay of earthy rye spiciness and the brewery’s signature farmhouse yeast, which contributes a distinct funky and spicy character. High hop intensity brings forward bright notes of citrus, tropical fruit, and resinous pine, contrasting with a supportive, non-roasted darker malt background typical of the style classification. This American-inspired farmhouse ale concludes with a signature dryness and firm bitterness, delivering a unique balance of rustic grain textures and vibrant, modern hop aromatics.
Appearance. Dark brown to opaque with a persistent, light tan head, moderate size, and good lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent citrus, tropical fruit, and resinous pine. Earthy rye spice is evident, complemented by a complex fermentation profile of peppery yeast esters and light farmhouse funk. Low to moderate malt with light toast notes.
Taste. Initial hop-forward impression with flavors of grapefruit, pine, and mango. The 15% rye provides a peppery, earthy malt flavor that works alongside restrained chocolate and toast notes. Fermentation is dry and funky with spicy esters. Bitterness is firm and medium-high, leading to a bitter but clean, dry finish.

The culprit behind the Salem Witch Trials was not the demonic possession (which would have been kind of cool), but ergot infected rye. The rye malt and aromatic hops in this beer aren’t likely to transform you into a witch, but maybe they’ll inspire you to think about your own transformation – perhaps into an individual; a free thinker; someone who speaks their mind and follows their dreams. Personally, we’d go with transforming into an army of flying viking bears, but what do we know?
