InVitro Brewing Death is a pitch-black Oatmeal Stout that belies its dark, metal-inspired name with a decadently smooth and approachable profile. Brewed with a massive addition of chocolate malts and oats, it presents an intense liquid chocolate character that defines the experience. The sensory profile is a rich medley of dark roasted coffee and cream, complemented by a subtle nutty graininess. On the palate, the heavy use of oats creates an exceptionally oily and velvety mouthfeel, carrying flavors of bittersweet cocoa and toasted grains into a balanced, medium-sweet finish. Despite its 6.5% ABV, it remains remarkably drinkable, offering a luxurious, creamy texture.
Appearance. Opaque and pitch black in color (40+ SRM). It features a thick, creamy, and persistent dark tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of milk chocolate and dark cocoa from the heavy use of chocolate malts. Moderate roasty coffee-and-cream notes are present, alongside a light grainy-nutty oatmeal character and subtle earthy hop notes.
Taste. Initial impression is dominated by rich chocolate and mild roasted coffee flavors. The oats provide a distinct toasty-nutty and earthy grain flavor. Bitterness is medium and well-balanced against the malt sweetness. The finish is medium-sweet, leaving a lingering, silky aftertaste of cocoa and dark-roasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied with a smooth, velvety, and almost oily slickness derived from the oatmeal. Carbonation is medium. There is a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth consistent with its strength.
