Interboro Spirits & Ales

Atlas is a potent Baltic Porter that balances high-gravity richness with a surprisingly approachable finish. The use of English pale ale base malt provides a sturdy, biscuity backbone that supports layers of bittersweet chocolate and fresh-ground coffee. Deeply roasted specialty malts impart a coal-black hue without harshness, while the lager yeast fermentation ensures a clean, smooth profile. Despite its double-digit alcohol content, the beer maintains the style's signature drinkability, leading with dark malt decadence and concluding with a dry, lingering toasted grain character that masks its deceptive strength through a remarkably clean and refined palate.

Appearance. Coal black color with deep amber highlights at the edges. Features a thick, persistent, dark tan foam head with excellent lacing. Though opaque in the glass, it remains clear of sediment.

Aroma. High intensity with a rich malt focus. Dominant notes of bittersweet chocolate and fresh-roasted coffee are supported by nuances of toasted nuts, deep caramel, and a hint of molasses. Esters are moderate and dark-fruit forward, reminiscent of raisins and plums. Clean fermentation with no hop aroma.

Taste. Initial impression is richly malty and sweet, featuring prominent dark chocolate and espresso flavors. The English pale ale base malt adds a biscuity, toasted complexity. Roast character is smooth and Schwarzbier-like, never burnt or acrid. Hop bitterness is low, providing just enough balance against the malt. The finish is surprisingly dry and biscuity with a lingering note of dark cocoa.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and smooth with a velvety, viscous texture. Moderate carbonation provides a mouth-filling sensation without heaviness. Alcohol warmth is strong and noticeable but well-integrated, lacking any harsh fusel edges. Minimal astringency.
