This Double IPA presents a saturated sensory experience driven by a heavy-handed application of Citra, Mosaic, and Columbus hops. Icarus Brewing balances a potent 8% ABV with a vibrant profile of ripe citrus and profound dankness. Aromas of grapefruit and tropical berries collide with an earthy, resinous undertone, while the palate delivers a concentrated juice-like fruit character. A smooth, supportive malt backbone ensures the high bitterness remains integrated, leading to a lingering, hop-forward finish. It captures the essence of a modern, hop-drenched ale that prioritizes aromatic intensity and a clean, punchy delivery.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper with a noticeable, persistent haze characteristic of the North East style. Features a moderate-sized, creamy off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet. Dominant notes of Citra-driven grapefruit and lime are layered with Mosaic-derived tropical blueberry and the signature dank, resinous pine of Columbus. A low, neutral grainy malt sweetness provides a clean foundation.
Taste. Bold citrus and tropical fruit flavors lead the initial impression, followed by a mid-palate of pungent resin and earthy spice. Bitterness is firm and moderately high but lacks harshness, balanced by a soft, light-grainy malt support. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering hop resin aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, rounded texture. Carbonation is medium-high. A gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present at 8% ABV, without any hop-derived astringency or harshness.
