Imperial Stout 13 º
This massive Imperial Stout, a collaboration between Humble Forager and Mikerphone Brewing, delivers a decadent sensory experience centered on its 13% ABV frame. The profile is defined by amped-up maple syrup and the deeply roasted character of Grost Bear coffee from Mostra. Layers of rich Ugandan vanilla beans and smooth Bolivian cocoa nibs create a velvety, chocolate-forward core, while aromatic cinnamon provides a warming spice accent. The result is a viscous, dessert-like journey where the intensely sweet adjuncts are balanced by the charred malt bitterness of the base stout, culminating in a complex and lingering finish.
Appearance. SRM 40+; Opaque, jet black with a viscous, motor-oil consistency. It supports a thick, dense, mocha-colored head with moderate retention and significant oily lacing.
Aroma. High intensity; dominant aromas of dark chocolate from the Bolivian cocoa nibs and fresh-ground Grost Bear coffee. Strong maple syrup sweetness is primary, complemented by the floral, creamy scent of Ugandan vanilla beans and a distinct woody cinnamon spice. Low earthy hop aroma is overshadowed by rich, roasted malt and dark fruit esters.
Taste. Initial impression is an explosion of sweet maple and fudge-like chocolate. The mid-palate introduces the roasted bitterness of Mostra coffee, which provides balance to the sugary profile. Flavors of Ugandan vanilla beans and cinnamon emerge toward the finish, adding depth and a spicy tingle. The malt character is intensely roasted with notes of espresso and bittersweet chocolate, finishing long and sweet with a velvety richness.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally viscous; a chewy, coating texture with low carbonation. A significant and pleasant alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the 13% strength without being sharp. No astringency, despite the heavy use of coffee and cinnamon.
