Forest Wanderer is a vibrant Double IPA that showcases a sophisticated hop profile against a pillowy grain bill. The use of barley, oats, spelt, and white wheat creates a soft, luxurious texture that carries intense aromatics of tropical stone fruit and bright citrus from the heavy Citra and Nectaron dry-hop additions. Chinook provides an anchoring resinous pine and subtle spice, balancing the lush fruitiness. While the 8% ABV provides a gentle warmth, the finish remains remarkably clean and dry, emphasizing a firm but smooth bitterness. It is a modern, fruit-forward exploration of the style that remains incredibly drinkable despite its strength.
Appearance. Deep gold to light amber in color (8-10 SRM). Features a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing. Displays a slight haze consistent with the high protein content of the wheat and oat additions.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by peach, passionfruit, and pineapple from Nectaron, and bright lime and grapefruit from Citra. A secondary layer of resinous pine and spice from Chinook provides complexity. The malt profile is clean and low, offering a slight grainy-sweet scent from the spelt and white wheat.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical stone fruit followed by sharp citrus zest. Low supportive malt flavor with a bready, soft character. Hop bitterness is moderately high but smooth, lacking any harsh edges. The fermentation is clean, allowing the interplay of Citra and Nectaron to shine. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering note of citrus peel and resinous pine.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notable creaminess and smooth texture derived from the oats. Carbonation is moderate to medium-high. A light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no hop-derived astringency.
