This Barrel Aged Imperial Stout presents a sophisticated sensory profile, pouring an opaque, jet-black with a dense, dark tan head. At 11% ABV, the aroma is an intense blend of bittersweet chocolate, roasted espresso, and deep dark fruits like prunes and figs, accented by the vanilla and toasted oak nuances of its barrel maturation. The palate is profoundly full-bodied and velvety, delivering layers of charred grain and black licorice against a firm bitterness. A smooth, integrated alcohol warmth carries through the lingering finish, where subtle vinous notes and oak tannins provide a complex, harmonious conclusion to each sip.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40+ SRM). Thick, persistent dark tan to mocha-colored head with visible viscosity and legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity; rich roasted malt offering notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and light char. Moderate dark fruit esters of raisin and plum, complemented by smooth alcohol and barrel-derived vanilla and oak.
Taste. Intense bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Mid-palate dark fruit complexity with notes of black currant. Firm bitterness balances the residual malt sweetness. The finish is long, warming, and slightly dry with toasted wood character.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied, chewy, and velvety. Low to moderate carbonation. Noticeable, smooth alcohol warmth that is well-integrated without being harsh.
