Horus Aged Ales Pacific Porpoise

Imperial Stout 12.2 º 40 IBU
This Imperial Stout is a decadent, sensory-rich collaboration that pushes the boundaries of the style through an intensive layering of coconut and complex sugars. The aroma is dominated by toasted coconut flakes and raw coconut, which meld seamlessly with the vanilla-forward sweetness of marshmallows. On the palate, the base malt delivers deep bittersweet chocolate and espresso notes, further enriched by the dark, molasses-like character of Muscovado sugar and coconut sugar. Despite the intense 12.2% ABV, the alcohol provides a smooth, integrated warmth rather than sharpness. The result is a viscous, dessert-like experience where the tropical nuttiness of coconut defines the long, lingering finish.
Appearance. Opaque, jet black (40+ SRM). The head is deep tan to dark brown with low retention and minimal lacing, likely due to the high concentration of oils from the raw and toasted coconut. High viscosity is evident in thick legs visible on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant toasted coconut and sweet macaroon notes take center stage, followed by rich dark chocolate, cocoa, and marshmallow vanilla. Subtle esters of dried plum and fig are present, supported by a deep caramel and burnt sugar sweetness. Hop character is absent, and the alcohol is noticeable but smooth.
Taste. Initial impression is intensely sweet and rich. Prominent flavors of toasted coconut and dark chocolate are balanced by a heavy roasted malt backbone. The Muscovado sugar adds a deep, earthy sweetness, while the marshmallows contribute a creamy vanilla quality. Bitterness is moderate but perceived as low due to the massive residual sugar levels. The finish is very long, sweet, and coated with coconut and dark malt oils.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied, thick, and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the beer's syrupy weight. A gentle, smooth alcohol warmth is present and well-integrated into the heavy body.
