Appearance. SRM 40. Jet black and opaque. Large, persistent head of dark tan to brown color with heavy, oily lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate, complemented by toasted hazelnuts and sweet vanilla. Low resinous hop aroma is present but secondary to the intense roast and adjuncts. Light alcohol presence and moderate dark fruit esters.
Taste. Moderate to very high roasted flavors of espresso and charred grain. Rich chocolate and hazelnut flavors provide significant depth, while vanilla adds a creamy sweetness. High bitterness from both dark malts and American hops. Finish is long and sweet-leaning with a lingering roasted quality and smooth alcohol warmth.
