Night Ryder is a Black Rye IPA that masterfully balances shadow-hued malts with vibrant hop aromatics. The inclusion of Rye adds a distinctive spicy, grainy complexity to the backbone, complementing a smooth, debittered roasted malt profile of chocolate and light coffee. Bold hop layers of resinous pine and citrus zest cut through the darkness, providing a punchy counterpoint to the toasted malt base. This Specialty IPA delivers the aggressive hop-forward character of an American IPA with an added layer of earthy depth and a crisp, dry finish, resulting in a dark yet highly drinkable pint.
Appearance. Dark brown to opaque black (35-40 SRM). Thick, persistent light tan head with excellent retention and dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring resinous pine, grapefruit, and a hint of dark berries. Supporting malt character offers light chocolate and toasted bread, enriched by a distinct peppery, spicy rye note. Clean fermentation.
Taste. Initial hop-forward flavors of pine and citrus pith. The mid-palate introduces restrained chocolate and coffee notes without burnt or ashy harshness. The rye contributes a sharp, spicy graininess that enhances the dry finish. Medium-high bitterness is firm but clean, lingering with a touch of hop resin and toasted malt.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from the rye grain. Moderate carbonation. Very light alcohol warmth and no malt-derived astringency.
