Hornbeer The Fundamental Blackhorn
This formidable Imperial Stout presents a profound sensory depth, defined by a robust grain bill of coffee malt, chocolate malt, and black malt. The aroma is a complex tapestry of espresso, dark chocolate, and black licorice, intricately woven with the floral sweetness of honey and the distinct, earthy tannins of walnut and oak aging. On the palate, an aggressive bitterness from its 120 IBU profile balances a rich, velvety body. Flavors of toasted nuts, honeyed sweetness, and scorched grain lead into a warming, lingering finish. It is a harmonious marriage of wood-aged character and intense roasting, offering a viscous and luxurious experience.
Appearance. SRM 35-40; jet black and opaque. Thick, persistent dark tan head with fine bubbles and significant lacing. High viscosity is apparent through visible legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant notes of espresso from coffee malt and bittersweet cocoa from chocolate malt. Complemented by black licorice, floral honey, and a distinct woody nuttiness from walnut and oak. Subtle dark fruit esters of prune and raisin emerge as the beer warms.
Taste. Intense initial impression of roasted grain and dark chocolate. The middle palate reveals honeyed sweetness and earthy walnut, followed by a sharp, aggressive hop bitterness and roasted char. Complex layers of black malt provide a slightly burnt but smooth finish. Deeply integrated alcohol provides a vinous quality that lingers on the back of the tongue.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. Notable but smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the high gravity without being sharp or solventy.

Het bier wordt gebrouwen met koffiemout, chocolademout, zwarte mout en honing. We hebben hop gebruikt tot 120 IBU, het is gedryhopt en het is gerijpt op eiken en walnoot. Nu denken we dat het voldoende gerijpt is. De smaak ? Mensen die het hebben geproefd, zeggen koffie, drop, honing, eiken en walnoot. Maar probeer het zelf. De Fundamental Blackhorn werd verkozen tot beste bier van het bierfestival in Valhal, Frederikssund 2011. Probeer het samen met kazen, blauwe kazen of donkere chocolade. Hornbeer:In onze hoevebrouwerij doen we het anders dan anders. Dit betekent dat we een groot deel van ons assortiment biologisch brouwen met aardwarmte en zonne-energie. We worden dan ook door sommigen de meest duurzame en zuinige brouwerij genoemd, waar we natuurlijk erg trots op zijn.
