This Cold Session IPA is a bright, summery collaboration between Horizont and The Garden Brewery, emphasizing the classic profile of Centennial hops. Expect a punchy bouquet of lemon, floral notes, and resinous pine, intensified by the addition of bittersweet grapefruit peels. The use of lager yeast ensures a clean, neutral backdrop that allows the hop-derived citrus and fruit-driven bitterness to remain front and center. Despite its lower alcohol content, it maintains the assertive character of an American IPA with a crisp, bone-dry finish and a refreshing, light-bodied structure that makes it incredibly drinkable and sharp.
Appearance. Brilliant, crystal-clear pale gold (approx. 4 SRM). Pours with a medium-sized, frothy white head that shows moderate persistence and leaves light lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity dominated by Centennial hops, providing vivid notes of lemon zest, floral blossoms, and a touch of sticky pine resin. This is layered with the bittersweet, zesty fragrance of fresh grapefruit peels. Malt character is very low, presenting as a faint, clean cracker or grainy note. Fermentation is exceptionally clean with no perceptible esters.
Taste. Bold hop flavors lead with grapefruit, orange rind, and pine needles. The addition of grapefruit peels adds a distinct, pithy bitterness that complements the firm, resinous bitterness of the Centennial hops. Malt is minimal, offering a slight bready support before dropping off into a very dry, crisp finish. The aftertaste is long and hoppy, leaving lingering notes of citrus zest and a clean bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Light to medium-light body with a crisp, refreshing texture. Carbonation is moderately high, providing a prickly, lively sensation on the tongue. There is no alcohol warmth and zero astringency.
