HopTop Brewery Eisbock 13%

Eisbock 13 º
This 2020 edition Eisbock from HopTop Brewery offers a concentrated sensory journey, rooted in a traditional decocted bock base. The aroma is an intense tapestry of bready malt, toasted crusts, and dark fruit notes of plum and raisin, underscored by a clean, warming alcohol presence. On the palate, the 13% ABV provides a significant but smooth warmth that balances a decadent malt profile of caramel and subtle chocolate. The freeze-distillation process results in a remarkably viscous, silky texture and amplified flavor intensity. It concludes with a rich, lingering maltiness and a refined, spirit-like finish that defines this potent German lager style.
Appearance. Deep brown with brilliant ruby highlights and clarity. The ivory head is minimal and fleeting, typical for the high alcohol content, while pronounced legs cling to the glass.
Aroma. High intensity of rich, toasty malt and Maillard products, featuring notes of dark bread crust and caramel. Significant dark fruit esters of plum and raisin are present, accompanied by a clean but potent alcohol aroma without solvent harshness.
Taste. Deeply malty and sweet with layers of toast, caramel, and a hint of dark chocolate. The intense maltiness is balanced by a strong, smooth alcohol presence and low bitterness that prevents a cloying finish. Clean fermentation allows dark fruit flavors to shine through the rich finish.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and viscous with a smooth, silky texture. Carbonation is low. A significant, well-integrated alcohol warmth is evident, providing a luxurious sensation without being hot or burning.
