Brutal Monkey is an assertive Double IPA from Hoppy Road that leans into the tropical, juice-forward profile of modern New World hops. Expect an intense aromatic burst of ripe mango, passion fruit, and bright citrus zest. The palate is defined by a soft, pillowy texture that masks its 8% alcohol by volume with remarkable ease. While it carries the punchy bitterness expected of the style, it maintains a clean, grainy malt backbone that allows resinous and stone fruit hop notes to dominate. It finishes dry and incredibly smooth, prioritizing high drinkability despite its powerful name.
Appearance. Hazy gold to deep orange-copper; features a dense, long-lasting off-white head with persistent lacing and excellent retention.
Aroma. Intense hop presence dominated by tropical fruit, pineapple, and grapefruit aromas. Secondary notes of resinous pine and light stone fruit are present. Malt is a background supporter with neutral, grainy, or light cracker-like scents. Very clean fermentation with subtle fruity esters and no solventy alcohol.
Taste. High hop flavor mirroring the tropical and citrus aroma profile. Bitterness is firm and assertive but smooth, lacking harshness. The malt provides a soft, bready foundation that remains unobtrusive. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering resinous and fruity aftertaste. Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate to medium-high. There is a noticeable but gentle alcohol warmth that enhances the mouthfeel without becoming hot or astringent.
