Hop Hooligans

This Brett Beer captures the duality of the harvest, merging the vibrant tartness of Raspberry and Blackberry with the evolving complexity of a 2020 vintage. The aroma is dominated by dark forest fruits and an emerging barnyard funk, characteristic of well-developed Brettanomyces. On the palate, the berries provide a sharp, bright acidity that cuts through rustic, earthy notes of wet hay and aged leather. It finishes exceptionally dry and crisp, with a lingering seed-like tannin that adds structure to the light-bodied profile. The interplay between the nurturing fruit and the unforgiving, dry fermentation creates a sophisticated, ever-changing sensory experience.

Appearance. Deep ruby to dark purple with a vibrant pink-tinted head that shows moderate retention. Clarity is characterized by a slight haze from fruit solids and Brettanomyces activity.

Aroma. High intensity berry aroma, featuring jammy raspberry and earthy blackberry. Supporting this is a noticeable funk including horse blanket, wet hay, and dusty attic notes. Hop character and malt are negligible, overshadowed by fruit and fermentation esters.

Taste. Initial impression is sharp and tart, led by intense red and black berry flavors. The malt presence is low and cracker-like, providing a stage for complex Brett traits of leather and mineral tang. Bitterness is very low, as the profile is driven by fruit acidity. The finish is bone-dry and crisp with a lingering fruit-skin aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a highly attenuated, lean structure. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a lively and scrubbing sensation. Very low alcohol warmth and a light touch of berry-derived tannin/astringency.
