Hop Hooligans

This English Barley Wine is a decadent, barrel-aged masterpiece, pouring with a deep mahogany hue and rich viscosity. The influence of Premium English Caramalt and Crystal Extra Dark creates a complex base of toffee, burnt sugar, and dried figs. Maturation in maple bourbon barrels introduces luxurious layers of sticky maple syrup, toasted oak, and a smooth vanilla finish. Utilizing WLP002 yeast, the beer maintains a fruity ester profile of plum and raisin that complements the intense malt depth. At 13% ABV, it offers a refined, warming glow, balancing the sweetness of the maple with the subtle tannins of the wood for a sophisticated sipping experience.

Appearance. Dark mahogany to deep brown with brilliant ruby highlights; low, off-white head with minimal retention; high viscosity with prominent legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity with a rich, multi-layered malt character featuring heavy caramel, toffee, and toasted bread; strong aromas of maple syrup, vanilla, and bourbon-soaked oak; moderate esters of dried dark fruits like figs and raisins; low earthy hop character.

Taste. Initial impression is intensely rich and sweet; deep flavors of biscuit and dark caramel are layered with maple syrup and charred oak; low earthy hop bitterness providing just enough structure to the malt-forward profile; WLP002 yeast contributes dark fruit esters; finish is long and lingering with a sweet, vinous, and warming character.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture; carbonation is low to moderate; significant but smooth alcohol warmth; high creaminess with very low astringency.
