Hop Hooligans

This modern Double IPA is a sensory powerhouse, layering a complex hop profile over a lush malt base. Utilizing Golden Promise and Heidelberg malt, the beer offers a soft, bready foundation reinforced by the velvety texture of oat malt and wheat malt. Intense aromatics of white grape from Nelson Sauvin and tropical coconut from Sabro emerge, complemented by the berry and stone fruit notes of Mosaic and HBC 522. The Cryo Pop blend intensifies the citrus and stone fruit esters provided by the London Ale III yeast. It finishes with a firm, integrated bitterness, balancing the rich, fruity complexity with high drinkability.

Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (7-9 SRM). Opaque and hazy with a substantial, dense white head that exhibits excellent retention and thick, persistent lacing.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of passion fruit, crushed gooseberry, and tropical mango. Subtle hints of coconut and cedar wood are present, backed by a low, grainy-sweet malt character. Moderate fruity esters of peach and apricot from the fermentation profile.

Taste. Strong, multi-layered hop flavors of citrus zest, blueberry, and ripe melon dominate the initial impression. The malt flavor is supportive and clean, suggesting fresh bread and oats. Bitterness is high but smooth, avoiding harshness or astringency. The finish is medium-dry with a long, resinous, and tropical fruit aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, pillowy texture derived from the heavy use of oats and wheat. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is present, well-integrated into the overall experience.

As clumsy and wobbly as that’ll be. 😵‍💫CRAWLING DISTANCE v1 is a heavily hopped DIPA that’ll take you through a few interesting spots, ending up home and cozy at the (hopefully) right destination. 🗺️It’s a fluffy, smooth, almost chewy base that got a full treatment of Cryo Pop, HBC 522, Sabro Cryo, Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin Hop Kief. 👌There’a a lot going on here. Might need a day or two to really get to the conclusion, but you’ll get there for sure. Baby steps.
