Bookworm presents a craft-focused evolution of the classic American Lager, balancing traditional crispness with modern aromatic depth. A base of Best A-XL and Carapils malts provides a delicate, grainy sweetness and a light, crackery foundation. The strategic use of Simcoe and Citra hops departs from style norms, introducing bright layers of grapefruit zest and soft pine needles without overwhelming the clean lager character. Fermented with WLP800 yeast, the profile remains exceptionally tidy, allowing the hop-derived citrus notes to shine against a high-carbonation backdrop. It is an elevated, high-attenuation lager that prioritizes refreshment while offering a more complex sensory journey than standard examples.

Appearance. Straw to pale gold in color (3 SRM). Features a bright white, frothy head with moderate retention and light lacing. Brilliant clarity with a sparkling appearance.

Aroma. Moderate-low intensity featuring a clean, grainy malt sweetness. The hop character is more prominent than typical for the style, offering distinct notes of citrus and subtle tropical fruit from the Citra, alongside a faint earthy pine from the Simcoe. Clean fermentation profile with no diacetyl or sulfur.

Taste. Initial impression is crisp and dry with a light grainy malt flavor. Hop flavors are moderate-low, showcasing notes of lemon peel and light resin. Bitterness is low to medium-low, providing just enough balance against the malt. The finish is very clean and short, with a refreshing, dry aftertaste and no lingering sweetness.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high carbonation that provides a prickly carbonic bite. Very smooth with no astringency. Despite the 6% ABV, alcohol warmth is very well-integrated and barely perceptible.
