This New Zealand Rice IPA delivers a vibrant sensory experience defined by its trio of Southern Hemisphere hops: Nelson Sauvin, Pacifica, and Motueka. The nose is a bright bouquet of crushed gooseberry and lime zest, underpinned by the elegant, vinous notes of white grapes typical of the New Zealand terroir. On the palate, the use of rice creates a lean, exceptionally crisp profile that allows the hop character to dominate without interference. Expect a sharp, high-intensity bitterness that cleanses the palate, finishing bone-dry. This American IPA variant showcases a modern, refreshing take on the style with a distinctly lean body.
Appearance. Pale gold to light gold (approx. 6-7 SRM). Clear to slightly hazy with a brilliant white, medium-sized head that shows good persistence and leaves delicate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of white wine, gooseberry, and fresh lime peel. Subtle floral and spicy undertones from Pacifica. Malt is low and neutral, presenting a clean, cracker-like background with no caramel. Fermentation is clean with very low esters.
Taste. Leading with high hop bitterness, the flavor profile mirrors the aroma with intense white grape and citrus zest. The malt presence is low and grainy, providing a minimalist foundation. The addition of rice ensures a very dry, crisp finish. Bitterness is firm and lingering but not harsh, following a hop-forward balance into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Moderate to high carbonation enhances the refreshing quality. Minimal alcohol warmth is well-integrated and smooth.
