This Imperial Stout presents an intricate sensory journey, shaped by a full year of maturation in Deanston Distillery casks from the Scottish Highlands. The initial aromatic greeting is a sophisticated blend of bittersweet chocolate and espresso, underpinned by the Highland Scotch barrel’s signature notes of heather honey, subtle oak vanillin, and a whisper of highland malt. On the palate, deep layers of black cherry and dark chocolate collide with the waxy, malt-forward character of the Deanston wood. It is a beer of immense depth, where the assertive bitterness of roasted grains harmonizes with a warming, velvety finish, demanding a slow, contemplative pace.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40). Displays a thick, deep tan head with moderate retention and fine, oily lacing that clings to the glass, showcasing significant viscosity.
Aroma. High intensity with a rich blend of dark chocolate, espresso, and black licorice. Complex esters of prunes and dried figs are present, layered with barrel-derived vanilla, toasted oak, and a subtle spirituous Highland Scotch character.
Taste. Intense initial impression of roasted grain and bittersweet cocoa. Mid-palate reveals dark fruit and caramel sweetness that balances a firm hop bitterness. The finish is long and warming with lingering notes of charred oak and dark-roasted coffee. The Deanston barrel contributes a unique honeyed complexity that rounds out the roast.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low-moderate, providing just enough lift to the viscous frame. A smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth is well-integrated and pleasant.

De herkenbare smaak van gebrande mouten en de smaak van donkere chocolade.
De whisky zit er goed in en brengt het geheel erg mooi op smaak.
Overtreft zelfs de RIS een beetje.
Licht zoet en licht houterig.
