Hooglander Bier #FadingMemories
This Double IPA is a high-intensity sensory journey defined by an assertive hop profile from a double addition of Cryo Talus, Citra, and Mosaic. The aroma and flavor are driven by vibrant pink grapefruit and dried rose petals from the Talus, while Citra provides a bright citrus punch of lime and tangerine. Mosaic adds depth with hints of blueberry and tropical mango. At 8.1% ABV, the beer remains lean and dry, allowing the firm bitterness to clean the palate without being overshadowed by malt. It is a modern, aromatic Double IPA that emphasizes hop saturation while maintaining superb drinkability and a smooth finish.
Appearance. Luminous deep gold to light copper (8 SRM). Displays a moderate-sized, creamy off-white head with excellent persistence and fine lacing. Clarity is mostly clear, though a very slight hop haze is present.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet. Dominant notes of ruby red grapefruit, mango, and passionfruit are punctuated by a delicate rose-like floral quality and a hint of resinous pine. The malt presence is low and neutral, offering a clean, cracker-like backdrop. A very soft, well-integrated alcohol sweetness is perceptible.
Taste. The initial palate is a wash of citrus zest and tropical fruit flavors, transitioning into a firm, moderately high bitterness that never becomes harsh. Hop flavors of tangerine, blueberry, and pine needles persist throughout. The malt character is soft and unobtrusive, providing just enough support to keep the balance hop-centric. It finishes medium-dry with a lingering, clean hoppy aftertaste and a touch of fruit esters.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively prickle on the tongue. A gentle, restrained alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its strength without any solventy harshness. No hop-derived astringency is noted.
