Japanese Rice 5 º
HITASU is an elevated International Pale Lager that balances traditional crispness with nuanced oak and New Zealand flair. A base of pilsner malt and rice malt provides a delicate, crackery foundation, fermented and aged within a foeder for refined structure. The use of Waimea hops introduces a vibrant aromatic profile of fresh tangelo and pine needles, lifting the clean lager profile. The oak vessel lends a subtle vanillin depth and a smooth, rounded finish without overshadowing the style’s inherent refreshment. This is a highly-attenuated, thirst-quenching lager where old-world wood meets modern Southern Hemisphere hop character.
Appearance. Pale straw to light gold (3 SRM). Brilliant clarity. Moderate white, frothy head with fair retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Clean fermentation profile. Low intensity grainy-malty and crackery pilsner malt notes with a subtle, sweet rice-adjunct quality. Moderate hop aroma featuring citrus zest and pine needles from the Waimea hops. Faint, nuanced notes of toasted oak and vanilla from the foeder.
Taste. Initial impression is crisp and dry. Low grainy malt and bready-crackery flavor. Moderate citrus and light resinous hop flavor. Bitterness is medium-low, balancing a light malty sweetness. Finish is very clean and well-attenuated with a lingering hint of woody oak and citrus spice.
Mouthfeel. Light to medium-light body with a crisp, refreshing texture. High carbonation providing a slight carbonic bite. Smooth, with a very subtle, pleasant oak-derived structure and no alcohol warmth.
