This complex grain bill, bolstered by caramalt, crystal, and amber malts, delivers an opulent profile of toasted bread, deep toffee, and scorched caramel. The addition of Invert Sugar No.2 and demerara sugar introduces nuances of treacle and dark dried fruits, while a six-week cold conditioning period ensures a remarkably smooth, integrated palate. Expect a luxurious, full-bodied experience where rich malt sweetness is elegantly balanced by a gentle, glowing alcohol warmth and a clean, lingering finish of caramelized sugar.
Appearance. Deep ruby to dark copper-brown with brilliant clarity. Pours with a thick, tan head that leaves moderate lacing; visible legs appear on the glass when swirled due to the 8.2% ABV.
Aroma. High intensity of bready-toasted malt with dominant notes of English biscuits, graham crackers, and toffee. Supportive aromas of caramelized sugars, treacle, and molasses from the demerara sugar blend with moderate dark fruit esters resembling raisins and dried plums. Hop character is virtually absent.
Taste. Initially rich and sweet with layers of caramel and toasted bread. The malt character is dense, showing flavors of toffee and nougat, while the Invert Sugar No.2 adds a subtle dark honey and burnt sugar complexity.
