Burnt grain notes and hints of black licorice provide a sharp edge, while a rich undercurrent of dark fruits—specifically dried plums and raisins—adds a velvet-like complexity. The beer’s formidable bitterness is expertly countered by a thick, chewy malt backbone, culminating in a lingering, bittersweet finish that glows with a sophisticated, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (SRM 40). Pours with a dense, persistent deep tan head that exhibits moderate lacing. High viscosity is apparent in the glass, showing prominent legs when swirled.
