Tyrant Bite is an unapologetically bold American IPA that exemplifies the resinous, high-bitterness profile of the West Coast style. An intense hop-forward character is driven by the mighty trio of Centennial, Citra, and Columbus, weaving together layers of pungent dankness, zesty grapefruit, and a hint of peppery spice. At 7.7% ABV, it presents a sturdy but clean malt foundation that yields entirely to the assertive, biting bitterness. This robust brew finishes exceptionally dry, allowing the complex hop oils to linger on the palate with a crisp, refreshing intensity that defines its aggressive, hop-centric personality.
Appearance. Clear, medium gold to light reddish-amber with a dense, persistent white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent resinous dankness, bright grapefruit, and a spicy, peppery quality. A very low, clean, grainy maltiness provides a neutral backdrop, while fermentation is clean with no significant esters.
Taste. Initial impression is dominated by an aggressive bitterness and hop-derived flavors of grapefruit peel and pine resin. The malt flavor is low and clean, providing just enough support to prevent harshness. The finish is very dry with a long-lingering, clean bitterness and residual notes of citrus oil and spice.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, and there is a noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth that adds to the robust character.
