This nuanced Oud Bruin represents a masterful blend of barrels aged for 18, 26, and 32 months, resulting in a complex, dark red profile. The long maturation introduces a sophisticated interplay of rich caramel and toffee maltiness with deep, vinous fruit notes of black cherry and dried figs. The barrel-driven acidity is present but integrated, steering clear of harsh acetic sharpness in favor of a smooth, sweet-and-sour balance. Hints of nutty oxidation and subtle chocolate emerge from the darker crystal malts, while the lack of hop character allows the intricate fermentation and wood-aged character to shine through a lingering, fruity finish.
Appearance. Dark reddish-brown with good clarity; features an ivory to light tan head with average retention and light lacing.
Aroma. High intensity with a rich malt profile of caramel, toffee, and a hint of chocolate. High fruity esters reminiscent of raisins, plums, and black cherries are balanced by a moderate aged sourness and light, sherry-like oxidation. Hop aroma is absent.
