Hepworth & Co Charger IPA is a refined expression of the Alternative Grain Beer style, pouring a brilliant deep gold with a creamy off-white head. The sensory profile is led by an assertive hop character featuring Sussex-grown Charger hops, which deliver distinctive spicy, herbal, and earthy notes. These are complemented by the delicate floral aromas of Goldings. On the palate, a crisp, grainy malt foundation provides a lean, bready backbone that supports a firm bitterness and flavors of orange marmalade. It finishes remarkably dry and clean, showcasing a well-integrated hop presence and a refreshing, light-bodied texture.
Appearance. Brilliant deep gold to light amber in color with excellent clarity. Topped by a dense, creamy off-white head with good retention and light, lingering lacing.
Aroma. Moderate-high hop intensity featuring earthy, spicy, and herbal notes. The malt character is moderate and clean, displaying a unique grainy or bready quality characteristic of alternative grains, accompanied by very low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a firm hop bitterness supported by a crisp, toasted bread malt profile. Hop flavors reflect the aroma with notes of herbal tea, dried flowers, and a hint of orange zest. The finish is clean and decidedly dry, with a lingering earthy bitterness typical of traditional English-style ales.
