HenkeBier Moscat presents a sophisticated fusion of aged Dutch gerstes and the elegant influence of Portuguese Moscatel barrels. The extensive aging process—averaging three years with components up to four and a half years—infuses the beer with a mature, earthy funk characterized by wet hay and leather. The Moscatel finish contributes vibrant layers of honeyed apricot, golden raisin, and delicate orange blossom. On the palate, the blend is remarkably dry and effervescent, showcasing a complex interplay between rustic Brettanomyces character and the floral nuances of the fortified wine. A subtle oak tannin provides structure, leading to a crisp, vinous finish that belies its moderate strength.

Appearance. Deep golden with bright orange highlights and a slight haze. Pours with a thin, fine-beaded off-white head that shows moderate retention and leaves light lacing on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity featuring prominent Brettanomyces funk with notes of wet hay, earthy leather, and a hint of barnyard. This is balanced by distinctive Moscatel wine notes of orange blossom, dried apricot, and honey. Low grainy malt and a touch of neutral oak are present in the background.

Taste. An initial impression of dry, rustic complexity. Malt flavors are low and cracker-like, allowing stone fruit esters—peach and apricot—to merge with the floral, honeyed character of the barrel. Brettanomyces provides a firm earthy and leathery backbone. Bitterness is low, serving only to balance the floral sweetness. The finish is remarkably dry, crisp, and vinous with a lingering floral and funky aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high, prickly carbonation that enhances the perceived dryness. Subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth. Very low tannic astringency from the Portuguese oak barrels provides a structured, champagne-like mouthfeel.
