Middle Boss is an assertive Double IPA that delivers a concentrated blast of modern hop intensity. Leveraging the concentrated punch of Simcoe Cryo, Citra Cryo, and Cascade Cryo, the profile is dominated by layers of resinous pine, bright grapefruit, and citrus zest. Nelson Sauvin introduces a distinct white grape and crushed gooseberry complexity, elevating the unwieldy juiciness promised by the brewery. At 8% ABV, the beer carries a smooth, integrated warmth that supports a plush, hazy body. This is a bold, modern interpretation that balances aggressive tropical fruit esters with a soft, rounded bitterness, resulting in a saturated hop experience that lingers long after each sip.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber (7–9 SRM). Opaque with a heavy, uniform haze. Large, creamy, off-white head with excellent retention and thick, persistent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring explosive passionfruit, white grape, and mango, layered with dank pine and bright lemon-lime. Low, neutral, crackery malt sits in the background. Fermentation esters are moderate and tropical, seamlessly blending with the heavy hop presence.
Taste. Bold initial impression of tropical fruit—specifically guava, pineapple, and citrus peel. The concentrated hop additions provide a clean, punchy flavor without vegetal harshness. Bitterness is firm but rounded, allowing the juice-like fruitiness to lead. Low malt sweetness provides a supportive, soft base. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering white wine character and resinous hop oils.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy, and creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. Notable but well-integrated alcohol warmth. Very low astringency despite the high hop load.
