Harviestoun Brewery Ola Dubh 14 Special Reserve

Back in 1983 when Harviestoun first started making innovative beer, the whole craft beer thing was just a glint in Harvie’s eye. Now, more than thirty years later they are proud to be the forefathers of this movement to better beer.  Harviestoun is a proud, family run business championing a dedication to the craft that produces award winning, natural brews whilst using the finest ingredients and purest Scottish water from the heart of the untamed Scottish Highlands.  Focussing on the quality of their beer has led to them becoming one of the most awarded breweries in the UK.  Harviestoun Ola Dubh 14 Year Old has been aged in selected oak casks, formerly uses to mature Highland Park’s beautifully balanced Loyalty of the Wolf Single Malt Scotch Whisky (14 years old).  

Description Pouring with a thick black opacity, Ola Dubh 14 opens with aromas of dark chocolate and roasted malt. A smooth approachable ale which perfectly balances sweet flavours of vanilla red fruit and cinnamon with a subtle spice of whisky and charred oak. Sweet and complex and perfectly paired with strong dark chocolate. Harviestoun say “Ola Dubh, meaning ‘Black Oil’ in Gaelic, is created by taking Harviestoun’s Old Engine Oil stout and maturing it in 14 year old Highland Park whisky casks. The result is a brew with complimentary whisky notes and vanilla and dark fruit notes. “Ola Dubh is a labour of love. Everything about it is extreme. The brew team fill the mash tuns to the brim with roast barley, pinhead oats and malted barley. It ferments more slowly as the the yeast struggles to move around in such a viscous beer! The base beer is Old Engine Oil which they then put into Highland Park Whisky casks and it stays there for at least 6 months. During this time the flavours from the wood enter the beer to produce Ola Dubh. It is ready only when our Master Brewer, Stuart, deems it ready!” 8% 330ml bottle
