Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a dense, deep tan head that shows moderate retention. Visible viscosity creates thick legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity roast with dominant notes of espresso coffee and black licorice. Underlying molasses and dark chocolate sweetness are present, alongside low dark fruit esters of prune and raisin. A clean, rich alcohol presence provides depth.
Taste. A complex, intense blend of bittersweet chocolate, heavy roast, and savory molasses. Malt flavors of bread crust and licorice are prominent. Bitterness is medium-high and firm, balancing the thick malt. The finish is long and lingering with a mix of roasted grain, dark chocolate bitterness, and warming alcohol.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally velvety with a thick, chewy texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no astringency.
