Là dòng bia đen khá hấp dẫn của Ireland, nhưng có mức độ phủ sóng rộng khắp thế giới. Bia được khá nhiều người yêu thích và biết đến bởi hương vị không thể nào quên được. Bia Ireland có màu nâu đậm hoặc đen, với sắc màu đặc trưng kích thích ánh nhìn của người uống.

Hương vị với các loại cola, ca cao, cà phê, ngũ cốc, cỏ khô và các loại hạt. Đây được xem là dòng bia khá ấn tượng với phức hợp của nhiều hương vị khác nhau. Chúng pha trộn để tạo nên sự hài hoà cho người uống nơi khoang miệng.
Guinness có hương vị rất đặc biệt do được nấu từ những hạt lúa mạch, men bia và một loại hoa đặc biệt. Lúa mạch được nướng lên trước khi dùng để nấu. Loại bia này mỗi khi rót ra cốc luôn có một lớp kem trắng phủ trên vì khi nấu bia được pha lẫn với nitơ, khác với các loại bia thông thường được trộn CO2.
Guinness là hãng bia bán chạy nhất Ireland, mang lại cho công ty Guinness & Co. €2 tỉ mỗi năm. Công ty Guinness có trụ sở ở London từ năm 1932. Họ hợp nhất với công ty Grand Metropolitan vào năm 1997.
Lịch sử.
Vào năm 1759, Arthur Guinness, một người đàn ông 34 tuổi chỉ với một chút ít kinh nghiệm nấu bia, đã thuê một nhà máy làm bia bị bỏ hoang tại Dublin, có tên St. James Gate. Ông đã kí hợp đồng thuê nhà máy thời hạn 9.000 năm với giá chỉ 45 bảng Anh một năm. Đây có thể là một trong những hợp đồng thuê nhà máy có thời hạn dài nhất trên thế giới.
Đúng 250 năm sau, Guinness trở thành hãng nấu bia đen nổi tiếng nhất thế giới và là niềm tự hào của người Ireland. Sự thành công của loại bia này là do hương vị độc đáo và những chiến dịch quảng cáo đầy sáng tạo.
Năm 2009, Guinness tổ chức kỉ niệm 250 năm ngày thành lập, được gọi là “Ngày Arthur”. Đúng 17:59 ngày 24 tháng 9 năm 2009 (giờ địa phương vòng quanh thế giới, những người yêu bia đen sẽ nâng cốc để tưởng nhớ người đàn ông đã làm nên tất cả.
Tham quan kho chứa bia của Guinness.
Kho chứa bia của Guinness là một trong những địa điểm tham quan nổi tiếng nhất của Dublin. Du khách đến Dublin mà chưa đến thăm kho chứa bia Guinness, tháp Guinness để được thưởng thức một cốc bia đen chính hiệu thì coi như chưa đến Dublin. Nhiều người đồng ý rằng bia Guinness bán tại Ireland ngon hơn hẳn so với tại các nước khác. Phải chăng điều này cũng tương đồng với loại bia hơi Hà Nội ngon nổi tiếng và mang đậm hương vị mà chỉ ở Hà Nội mới có.
Từ một nhà máy nấu bia, St James Gate giờ đã trở thành một bảo tàng của Guinness với 7 tầng lầu. Tầng trên cùng là quầy bar Gravity, có tầm nhìn 360 độ quanh thành phố Dublin, nơi mà du khách có thể nhận một cốc bia Guinness miễn phí.
Những điều bạn chưa biết về Guinness.
1. Arthur Guinness chưa bao giờ nấu bia stout (loại bia đen hiện nay).
Arthur Guinness ban đầu chỉ nấu những loại bia thường và vào những năm 1770, khi mà Porter (loại bia đen từ xưa) bắt đầu nổi lên ở Dublin, ông bắt đầu nấu thử bia Porter. Vào năm 1799, Guinness quyết định chú tâm vào nấu bia porter.
2. Ba trong số năm nhà máy của Guinness nằm ở Châu Phi.
Mặc dù được nấu trên 60 đất nước và được bán trên 150 nước, hãng Guinness chỉ sở hữu 5 nhà máy trên thế giới, kể cả nhà máy St. James Gate ở Dublin. Một ở Châu Á (Malaysia), số còn lại nằm ở Châu Phi (Nigeria, Ghana và Cameroon).
